On April 3rd, 2013, three hundred guests arrived at the beautiful Dallas Country Club for Parkinson Voice Project’s annual Parkinson Awareness Luncheon. Guests included Caroline Rose Hunt, Marianne Staubach, Billie Leigh Rippey, John Marston, Nancy Seay, Pauline Neuhoff, Elizabeth Boeckman, Katherine Lyle Glaze, and Kay Tinsley.
Event highlights included a heartfelt speech by Lisa Temerlin Gottesman, the daughter of honorary chairs Karla and Liener Temerlin. She spoke about the revitalization of her father’s voice, which had been affected by Parkinson’s. In addition, the featured speaker, Rich Clifford, a former NASA astronaut and Parkinson’s advocate, excited the crowd with fascinating stories about spaceflight and traveling to the space station Mir.
The event also included a “Mystery Box Game” sponsored by Pampillonia Jewelers, which featured thirty pieces of jewelry sold in closed boxes to guests, including a 6.5 carat blue topaz ring, won by attendee Lynn Wagner. Four lucky raffle participants also walked away with fabulous prize packages worth over $9,000.
Proceeds from the luncheon will be used to help people with Parkinson’s receive speech-language pathology services necessary to rehabilitate their voices and to support our ongoing maintenance program, The LOUD Crowd®.
